LABARATORY SERVICES - MAIN LABARATORYThe main and high voltage laboratories are specialized service centers within
WEIDMANN ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY AG.

Among their tasks:
– Acceptance inspection of raw material
– Process control
– Product development tests
– Failure analysis
– Research and development

Using state-of-the-art testing equipment, tests can be performed utilizing the current standards for insulation materials and components, or in accordance with customer specifications. The test specimens can be manufactured in our own workshop.

Cooperation with external partners
For tasks that exceed our laboratory capabilities, we keep close relationships with universities and specialized laboratories.

As a company that develops and manufactures insulation materials and components, we have a broad spectrum of in-depth knowledge of materials, modes of application, processing methods, and potential failure sources. Adding our extensive experience in materials testing makes us equipped to determine test values, interpret them in light of the problem, and discuss our findings.

Mechanical Tests:
– Universal testing machine force 20 kN, temperature range: –80 to 250 °C
– Bursting test equipment
– Bendtsen air permeability and surface finish

Chemical Tests:
– Apparatus for the determination of Degree of Polymerization (DP) of cellulose
– Moisture content as per Karl Fischer of solid and liquid test samples
– Nitrogen content as per Kjeldahl
– Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) of transformer oils
– pH and conductivity of aqueous extract

Optical Tests:
– X-ray equipment
– Microscope, magnifying to x 500, equipped with a digital camera
– Infrared spectroscopy

Simulation of Environmental Conditions:
– Ovens for thermal aging up to 300 °C
– Climate chamber –40 to 200 °C, 0 to 100 % r.h.
– Aging facilities for long-term thermal aging in oil up to 150 °C

Miscellaneous Tests:
– Fiber length analysis as per Kajaani FS 300
– Differential scanning calorimetry
– Particle count in oil

Electrical Tests:
– Permittivity and dielectric dissipation factor
– DC resistivity
– Oil testing
– Equipment for oil treatment
– Equipment for drying and oil impregnation of test samples
– AC (50 Hz) up to 400 kV with PD measurement
– AC (50 Hz) up to 70 kV with PD measurement in controlled climate (ambient to 100 °C; 0 – 100 % r.h.)
– DC (steady-state and polarity reversal) up to ± 600 kV
– Impulse up to 800 kV
